About The
MANSON Movie
A Robert Hendrickson Film
In 1969,
with a 16mm Auricon and a hand held Bolex, a 25 year old Robert
Hendrickson began filming his first feature film, but was unaware
that his lead actor was associated with the Charles Manson Family.
In a bizarre twist, after the horrendous Tate and LaBianca massacre,
his lead actor arranged for him to have exclusive access to the
Manson Gang for the filming of their incredible story. After almost
three years of filming, the end result was the academy award
nominated documentary film "MANSON". Although, to some extent,
"MANSON" told the story of the Family and the Crime of the Century,
it never touched upon the story behind the story or Hendrickson's
personal experience of traveling with and filming the actual Manson
Family.
In 2000,
Hendrickson began the painstaking process of preserving all the
originally shot footage. This was accomplished by assembling in
chronological order for transfer to Beta SP tape, all of the
material as it was actually recorded. Then, when the Beta transfers
were viewed in sequence for the first time, a new and compelling
story emerged. The entire dangerous journey, personally experienced
by a young filmmaker over 35 years ago, could also be experienced by
an audience today.
Via
computer editing, the new story was rough cut down to a five hour
mini-series, with plans to eventually do a pay-per-view webcast.
Then with the recent wide acceptance of documentary films playing in
theaters again, Hendrickson decided to attempt editing an 85 minute
theatrical version of the five hour series. The final result,
completed only recently, is a fast paced wild and crazy ride with
the notorious Manson Gang, and with Hendrickson's own voice as your
personal guide. In short, he will walk you right through the Gates
of Hell, into a world you never knew existed.
"The
MANSON Movie" is designed to put you there, in the late 60's and
early 70's, right along side of Robert Hendrickson, as he films the
Family at the Sphan Movie Ranch, Devil's Canyon, the Gang's Death
Valley hide-out, behind the scenes of the Trial of the Century, and
even the Vietnam anti-war protests and riots on the streets of Los
Angeles.
Please
note: MANSON II was only the working title for this project, and is
now officially entitled "The MANSON Movie." The official website
theMANSONmovie.com is under construction and will be up and running
