While the December 19,1969 issue of Life magazine changed forever the way
America perceived "Hippies", the recent December 6, 1999 issue of U.S.
News & World Report has changed little as to how America views crime. But
now that the famous photo of Charles Manson is, beyond a doubt, more
recognizable than the picture of any American president is a testament to
Manson's historic legacy. That 'U.S. News' purposely excluded the name of
Charles Manson to identify its cover photo, is proof that as is proclaimed
in Oliver Stone's film "Natural Born Killers", Manson is the King!
Manson, to most Americans represents the personification of evil. This is
a reasonable conclusion to be drawn from the facts as they have been
presented by the media, but what if there exists more to the story? What
if very important facts have been left out or not even known about.
There are no facts suggesting that the "Manson
Family" was not involved in the Tate LaBianca Massacre
and there is sufficient evidence showing that the
"Family" was definitely involved in murder and certain
Family members have even confessed to specific acts of violence.
But from there springs the controversy which haunts "The Crime of
the Century", even today.
Was the little uneducated ex-con, Charles Manson legally
responsible for the young men and women committing murder, and
lots of it? Today, those convicted will tell you that Charlie made
them do it. The famous prosecutor will tell you that Manson had
magical powers over his disciples and the defense attorneys, well,
they never even called a witness, so just what is the whole truth?
Maybe, just maybe the only real truth is the fact that you
